DescriptionWhy buy the Winton W‑FL125 Flail Mower?
The W-FL125 is the mid-small choice in Winton's W-FL flail range, sized for a 20–40 HP compact tractor that wants more bite than a sub-compact deck without overworking the PTO. Offset mounting pushes the cutting line out past the wheel track — useful along hedge bases, fence lines and verge edges where a centred deck won't reach.
Rough paddock or fine finish
20 hammer-style flails ride a spiral-set rotor. They bite into overgrown grass, nettles and woody weeds where a topper would tear, then leave a clean finish on shorter grass once growth is back under control. The spiral layout staggers the cut so the rotor pulls evenly rather than slamming the whole row at once.
Height control on uneven ground
Cut height runs 3–8 cm, set by the rear roller working with the tractor's top link. Two adjustable skids share the load on rougher ground and stop the deck scalping over humps. The roller also presses the cut behind you for a tidier finish on lawn or orchard work.
Tractor fit
Mounts on Cat 1 three-point linkage with a 60 cm lower linkage width and runs from the PTO. At 244 kg, check your hydraulics and ballast before ordering.
- 1.25m working width — sized for 20–40 HP compact tractors

Review Your Winton W‑FL125
Ive only used both items maybe 3 or 4 times since buying them just over a year agp. I jusy use them occasionally. I have been delighted with the products, especially the Winton flail mower. As a comparison, I bought a brand new Bomford Bandit flail in 1988 which I used for 36 years. I loved it, but I like the Winton better; itjust has the edge. Maybe not as robust as the bandit and doubt it will go for 30+ years. But I'll let my grandson worry about that, lol. And as a comoarison, my Winton has just cost me almost the same as the Bandit did. In a nutshell. I'm really happy and would (already have) recommended this to several friends.
we are very pleased with the Winton WFL125 flail mower we purchase from you in 2024. This is a well built & robust machine, easy to set up & use with clear instructions in the operators manual. In addition I found your service & delivery to be excellent, thank you for that. We are looking forward to getting many years of service out of this machine which I am sure we will.

Excellent service & easy to use web site. Competitive pricing which included free delivery. Very pleased with my purchase which was a Winton WFL125 flail mower.
Just to thank you for your efficient service on my purchase of a Winton WFL125 flail mower. All now set up & working well, very pleased with this machine.
Purchased to replace damaged items easy to install and works perfectly
I purchased a Winton WFL125 flail mower…
I purchased a Winton WFL125 flail mower in August of 2021. It works perfectly with my 30hp Kubota tractor and tackles everything I throw at it. It has compared very well to my 180cm Del Morini flail that I also use. I prefer the Winton when it comes to servicing such as gear box oil changes and greasing the bearings. Zaros delivered the mower ready to use with everything checkout over. I would recommend Zaros & Winton to anyone.

Value for money is excellent
Very pleased with the machine. The flail has been an great purchase, cutting through some very long and thick meadows and grass areas. Flail munches up the cuttings well so not too much debris left to collect. Value for money is excellent.
Just had our Flail Topper delivered. I used it for approximately 2.5 hours chomping through heavy grass & thistles some higher than the tractor! The expression "Knife through butter" comes to mind explaining the new Topper. Money well spent too, and it goes with the Massey Ferguson Red too.
It is a super bit of kit that cuts through the roughest of grass
I bought my Winton Flail Mower about 2 years ago and can say it is a super bit of kit that cuts through the roughest of grass, bramble and other such vegetation with ease. However, it is also suitable for use on grass where a lighter cut and finish is required.
The Rotovator, harrows and Aerator all work perfectly thank you, and am very happy with them!

Customer Service
I purchased a Winton Flail Mower from Zaros last year, a smooth and efficient transaction, and an effective and sturdy piece of machinery. I've recently needed to order some additional parts and also needed consumable items for the mower (drive belts). The service I've had from Annie at Zaros has been absolutely superb. Very quick turn around, excellent and prompt communication and customer service delivery matching what we would hope for. Brilliant and highly recommended.
Good service from zaros and good communication through buying process. Product works well.

Good service - on time delivery
Good service, delivered on time with good communication throughout the purchase process. Winton 1.75 flail mower working well. Will use Zaros again.
Great service, good advice and delivered when agreed
Great service, good advice and delivered when agreed. Mower is perfect for what I need (8 acres of paddock) and has been trouble-free.
It is much more effective than my finishing mower
The WFL175 mower is working well - I am not a heavy user but I have had no issues with it at all. It works on fairly thick paddock and longish field grass (some had not been cut for over a year). It is much more effective than my finishing mower that struggled with longer field grass and brushwood. I am using the mower with a vintage MF35X and it has no problem running it.
The Flail Mower has been excellent
The Flail Mower has been excellent and rates a 5. Your service and attention also rates a 5 .
I bought the flail mower last year and it’s been great, already mowed 6 acres ready for the horses to move in this year.
Worked faultlessly and leaves a very clean smooth finish to the grass
We have ran a full season flail mowing our paddock. The machine is excellent, has worked faultlessly and leaves a very clean smooth finish to the grass. We are very pleased with it.
Quality product and professional service. Definitely recommend
Flail mower has been excellent
Flail mower has been excellent. We use it all regularly to cut paddocks and to help cut up hedge trimmings. I give it 5/5. I guess I would now buy the version which allows for offset but its not limiting my use.

Thank you for your feedback, Geoff. The hydraulic offset WHF version of your flail mower will give you roughly 30cm more cut on the right-hand side. Fortunately for those with the fixed-position WFL model, it has a built-in offset as standard. This is due to the mower being central behind your tractor while having the belt drive on the left-hand side.
I would highly recommend the Winton flail mower
I’ve been very impressed with this Winton flail mower. It was very easy to attach to my old Fordson tractor, there was enough adjustment of mountings on the mower body to accommodate the wider hydraulic lift arms. The cutting blades are very robust and easily cut the toughest brambles and weeds as well as the grass in the 3 acre apple orchard and 6 acre adjacent field. It’s also very easy to clean and maintain. I used a rotary topper before this machine and was always having issues with it. I would highly recommend the Winton flail mower to anyone cutting a large area of grass that’s too long for a standard “ride-on”. I would rate this machine 5 out of 5!
Very well built
Very well built and already taken a lot of hammer on our rough land. Would pay a bit more for a spare set of sharp blade cutters for alternative grass types.

Thank you for the feedback. I recommend caution if buying Y-Blades for a machine originally fitted with Hammers (and vice-versa). Some machines can be supplied with either blade style, but they aren't recommended to be interchanged. This is due to the rotor being balanced with one type of blade, which may cause vibration when fitted with a different blade style with a significantly higher or lower mass. Replacement hammer blades are readily available for your machine. Replacing worn, blunt blades with new ones will help improve the finish of your grass.
Overall a nice piece of heavy duty kit
Overall a nice piece of heavy duty kit with a few minor limitations. Can cut virtually any length** or type of grass / pasture. Ideal for tidying up woodland floor, removing brambles, generating paths. Can produce a near bowling green finish on lawns if required. Works best in dry conditions. Damp or wet grass cuttings will wrap around roller bearings and seize roller if not removed frequently. Scraper bar attached to roller largely ineffective. Always worth checking and cleaning roller and hammer blades after each use. ** a 2 foot cut easily achieved in two or three stages using tractor hydraulic lift. I would presently rate this machine 4 out of 5 but please note if the irritating problem with damp grass build up around roller bearings during operation can be solved I would give the Flail a 5 out of 5 rating.

Hi Gerald, thank you for your detailed feedback. While the WFL series of mowers can tackle pretty much any vegetation (wet or dry), exceedingly long, wet grass is the most difficult for it. The 2-foot grass you've been cutting is challenging for any machine, especially in the wet. We're glad you've tackled this by occasionally removing trapped grass. It is always easiest on a mower to cut in the dry. But for anything woodier than grass, or for grass that's regularly cut, wet conditions should not be a problem.
I am pleased with the WFL145 as it works well and seems good value
I am pleased with the WFL145 as it works well and seems good value. On the last outing however the drive belt burnt out which took me by surprise. Oil levels were fine so I'm not sure if it's down to me checking tension etc or something that I could expect. If that had not happened I would have given it a 5, since it did happen it's a 4.

Thank you for your feedback. The tension of the belts should be checked over time as they slowly stretch. After over a year of use, they will become looser and may burn out if not adjusted accordingly. The adjustment is simple and is performed via a single bolt that can be tightened/loosened with an everyday spanner. To check the tightness of the belts is within the correct range, hold the belt between the two pulleys and try to twist the belt. It should turn roughly 90 degrees. If you cannot twist it, it's too tight, and if you can exceed 90 degrees, it's too loose.
Great mower with no issues
Great mower with no issues. 5 out of 5.
It cuts my field with ease and leaves a nice finish
I have had the flail mower on the back of an old ford 3000. It cuts my field with ease and leaves a nice finish. I no longer have to rely on others to cut my grass. Great piece of machinery.
Would highly recommend both product and supplier
5 star rating. Very happy with machine. Would highly recommend both product and supplier.
It has helped turn overgrown fields into nice green pastures
I would highly recommend this machine to others, it has helped turn overgrown fields into nice green pastures.
Well made product
Well made product. No problems.
I would recommend it to others
I have been using the WFL105 for annually cutting back brambles, thorn and nettles which are trying to encroach on my wildflower meadows. I also cut back long tussocky grass in the wrong place and cut paths through the meadows. I drive it with a 17HP Yanmar tractor and , at times, I could do with more HP in the more dense growth ! I have the hammer flails rather than the Y flails and they work well on most things but sometimes get clogged with the longer tussocky grass. Overall the machine does what I wanted it to do and I would recommend it to others.

Thank you for the feedback, David. Tussock grass is always difficult, but a few things can help with this. 1) Cut the grass in two passes, one high and one at the final height. 2) Reduce your tractor's forward speed, allowing the mower more time to cut through the grass. 3) Cut the grass mounds more regularly
