Winton 9" Auger Only WHB‑A09

9-inch Bit for Gateposts and Strainers
The Winton WHB‑A09 sits between the 6" line-post bit and the 12" structural bit - the size to reach for when a gatepost or strainer needs more shoulder than a standard line hole. Runs on the W-HBF main unit, suited to smallholders and estate managers fencing paddocks.
DescriptionWhy buy the Winton WHB‑A09 9" Auger?
The Winton WHB-A09 is an add-on bit for the W-HBF hole borer, sinking 23 cm holes for gateposts and strainers — the points on a paddock fence that take real strain. A 6" hole is fine for line posts, but a hung gate or a corner brace wants more shoulder around the post, and that's the gap the WHB-A09 fills.
Where the 9" earns its place
Gateposts, strainers, and field-corner braces carry the load of a fence line. Drop them into a 23 cm hole at proper depth and the post has room for concrete or rammed hardcore around it; drop them into a 6" hole and you're fighting the timber in. For shelter uprights and tree-pit work, the same width gives the post foot somewhere to sit.
Depth that clears the frost line
90 cm of working depth puts the post foot below the UK frost line on most ground, so winter heave doesn't lift a strainer out of true over a few seasons. It also gives the anchorage a hung gate needs — shallow posts on heavy gates wallow within a year.
- Working width: 23 cm (9") — sized for gateposts and strainers, not standard line posts
- Working depth: 90 cm — clears UK frost line and anchors posts under load

- Add-on bit: requires the Winton W-HBF hole borer main unit to operate
- Family fit: sits between the 6" line-post bit and the 12" structural bit
