Founded with the construction of a corn mill in Pennsylvania in 1895, New Holland quickly diversified into other farm implements, notably gaining success with their automatic hay balers. The firm underwent significant changes when it was acquired by Ford in 1985, leading to the Ford-New Holland name appearing on tractors. In 1990, Ford sold a majority stake in its agricultural machinery division to FIAT, with the stipulation that the Ford name would be phased out over ten years. During this transitional period, tractors were marketed under both New Holland in traditional Ford regions, and FIAT in their established markets. The culmination of its growth and strategic mergers was the merger of Case IH and FIAT/New Holland in 1999 to form CNH Global, which continues to manufacture tractors under the New Holland brand.
