DescriptionWhy buy the SCH MSMGT60 Arena Leveller?
The SCH MSMGT60 Arena Leveller Menage Grader is unique in its versatility, and it can maintain a variety of horse arenas, including the most popular menage types:
- Sand and Fibre
- Sand and Rubber
- Carpet Fibre
- And more!
How does the arena leveller work?
The spring tines act as an arena harrow
The heavy-duty S-shaped sprung tines delve into the menage and turn over the surface, refreshing the top layer and helping to prevent algae build-up that can occur if arena maintenance is not carried out. The penetration depth of the tines can be infinitely adjusted or lifted out of use entirely, allowing you to use only the crumble rollers.
The crumble rollers act as an arena leveller and an arena grader
The two crumble rollers have several uses; the first is to keep the tines level as they travel across the menage. By utilising two extra-wide rollers, this arena leveller ensures that the tines always penetrate at the perfect depth, which no other set-up can hope to accomplish.
The second use of the rollers is to level the arena surface. The divots the horses create are quickly levelled and filled in, usually in a single pass. This is achieved by the "crumble" nature of the rollers. This means the gaps between the roller bars gather material and distribute it across a larger area, eliminating high areas and filling deeper areas.
The MSMGT60 rollers have one of the highest rod counts compared to inferior machines. They utilise 16 solid steel rods each, which ensures the roller can turn smoothly and redistribute material at the optimal rate.
What make the MSMGT60 the best arena leveller?
It is the combination of the sprung tines and the two rollers that make this machine so effective and the country's favourite arena leveller. The first roller flattens out any inconsistencies in the menage, and then the tines turn over and agitate the surface. Before the material has had a chance to fall and settle completely, the rear roller breaks up any chunks and distributes them. This gives you a level, rejuvenated, and enviable finish.
Level and grade the arena edges
Don't forget about the arena's edges, where material naturally builds up against the kickboards. Typically, you will have to manually pull this in using a shovel, but the MSMGT60 will do it for you!
The optional side-scraper is height adjustable and will pull the edge build-up into the tines and roller, where it will be distributed across the entire width of the machine.
How to adjust the arena leveller
Any arena leveller must have height-adjustable tines, as every menage differs. The penetration depth of the tines is adjusted by lowering or raising the rollers. As the rollers lower, the tines naturally rise. This lets the tines penetrate deeply, or they can be above the surface not working at all, and everything in between.
The adjustment uses two screw-jacks - one on either roller. Most customers simply adjust once to the desired penetration depth and leave it in place.
How to transport the arena harrow
So that you don't have to raise the harrowing tines up every time you wish to transport the harrow, and so that you're not running the rollers over grass, concrete and gravel when travelling from storage to the menage, there are two transport wheels which are also on their own screw jacks.
This lets you quickly and effortlessly lower the wheels when transporting the MSMGT60 and raise them at the arena.
Harrow the arena to help prevent the surface freezing during winter
Rain and ice can quickly cause your menage to be out of action for multiple weeks or months of the year.
The MSMGT's sprung tines and roller can help alleviate the impact of those frosty nights by keeping the surface turned over and broken up. No menage grader can break up a frozen-solid menage, but the MSMGT60 is ideal for helping prevent it from freezing solid in the first place.
Horse Arena Maintenance Vehicles
The MSMGT60's versatility doesn't end with its features and the variety of surfaces it can work on. The machine is designed for use behind many towing vehicles, and various towing hitches are available as optional extras.
The most common vehicles used to tow these units are:
- Ride-on mowers / Lawn tractors
- Quad bikes / utility vehicles
- 4x4s, and sometimes even cars
Compact tractors are also a popular favourite to tow these menage units. However, instead of towing the MSMGT60, there is a choice of three sizes of tractor-mounted menage graders. These attach to a tractor's 3-point linkage. The product references for these are the 3MSMGT48, 3MSMGT60 and 3MSMGT72, with the last two digits denoting the working width in inches.
The towed version is available in two working widths. These are the 48" MSMGT48 and the 60" MSMGT60. Both models are identical, and it's only the working width that's different.

Review Your SCH MSMGT60
We have found it a game changer with my arena. Have had people comment on how good the arena is looking. It has been fantastic at levelling the carpet fibre and sand without scraping the carpet fibre off the top like others have done. It is just so easy to hitch up and use. 5 minutes running over and job done. Would highly recommend it to others. My only regret is that I didn’t get one sooner as struggled for years with other devices. Regards…Mandy a happy customer! 😀
Would highly recommend
Absolutely fabulous service, everything arrived very quickly with updated notifications. Would highly recommend and will definitely use Zaros again. Thank you to all your team.
In short: the arena grader is excellent!
Excellent for restoring and maintaining a rubber and sand arena, hitched to a quad bike. The arena hadn't been used for a few years but the grader brought it back to life. Weekly attention has kept the arena surface in great condition. The grader is very robust and the settings are easily adjusted to suit our requirements. The grader is very robust and well made. One suggestion would be to have some sort of height measure or ruler scale on the adjustments to make it easier to select the same height settings.

Thank you for your detailed review. The height adjustment of the rollers / tines can be set just once, and when you're happy with the position, you won't have to alter the height again. Instead of raising the rollers to allow the machine to be transported, lower the transport wheels instead. This way, the rollers and tines will be kept at the same settings during each use.
I have two ménages with very different surfaces and its brilliant!
The grader is perfect and does a really good on different surfaces. I have two ménages with very different surfaces and its brilliant!
The menage grader has been working amazingly
The menage grader has been working amazingly. After seeing it at work, the company that built the arena has now started suggesting it to their customers. 4/5 stars just because the side arm drops during use. 5/5 when the side kick plate is not in use

The side-arm is fitted with 2 bolts and locking off nuts. To lock the side-arm at the required height, first tighten the bolts, then tighten the nuts against the side-arm. With both the bolt and nut tight, this will prevent the side-arm from dropping down.
Overall a great value-for-money machine for ménage maintenance
Used this 60” grader every few weeks since purchase - pulling it with a 4wd quad bike - does an excellent job of remixing fibre and sand with the tynes and then regrading and levelling with the rotating rollers / beaters - depths easily adjusted front and back- plus raising to allow easy movement on the wheels - good and secure hitch - does have some superficial rust in several places even though always stored in shed so not sure has the best paint protection - overall a great value for money machine for ménage maintenance producing a great riding surface. Grant / Uttoxeter

Both ourselves and SCH appreciate your feedback, and SCH is upgrading the paint used on their future menage graders as a response to your review. Minor surface rust is common on machines that come into contact with horse muck or urine, even indirectly. Fortunately, SCH machines use exceptionally thick steel, and the rust described will not cause an issue even after decades of use.
I would higly recommend it
The machine is great, easy to use and light enough for me to handle and hitch on my own. I would higly recommend it to others and give it a 5 out of 5 rating.
It would be very helpful if it had details of how to set it up included on delivery instead of health and safety nonsense. It isn’t intuitively obvious and has taken a lot of thought and experimentation. It is a super piece of kit once you have fathomed it out.
A robust and good quality machine
The manège grader works really well and we are pleased with the results it produces. The only frustrating thing is that I have to do the square corners by hand as it doesn’t back up! However I would still rate it 5 out of 5. A robust and good quality machine that does a good job!

Thank you for your feedback! A way of getting into the corners is by raising the manege grader on it's two transport wheels, and reversing into the corner. You can then lower the machine back down and start grading again. The tractor-mounted varient of this machine, the 3MSMGT can be raised on the tractor's 3-point linkage, for ease of getting into corners.
