DescriptionWhy buy the SCH D48 Scarifier Dethatcher?
The carrier frame fitted with the 48" dethatcher, comprises of four rows of staggered shock coiled tines which will tease out heavily matted grass and encourage tillering during the growing season. The D48 can also be used to freshen up gravel driveways, paths and horse arenas. The three 25 litre ballast containers supplied with the carrier frame, can be used for extra weight if required.
Please note: To avoid damage during transit, the tines are supplied loose, and SCH fit only one tine as an example of how to do this.

Review Your SCH D48
We used the SCH D48 48" Towed Scarifier Dethatcher extensively in the last quarter of 2024 to help us get our 3 acres of grass under control but mainly to aid in the creation of a 1 acre wild flower meadow. We needed to open up 40 to 50% of the grass to the soil so that we could sow our yellow rattle, the first phase of creating the meadow. It worked perfectly and I would recommend the equipment to anyone with a similar application.

Big Red Ones ...
We now have a bright red towable aerator and matching towable scarifier, just what we needed to maintain enormous, extensive lawns that now need lots of attention after decades of neglect. I have soon grown familiar with how best to operate these machines ... the aerator is simple enough, to avoid punching holes in tarmac roads, but the scarifier takes a bit of height adjustment of the towing bar to ensure all the raking 'hooks' are in contact with the grass when operating. The top deck recesses for water weights or something heavy (I use a few hefty logs) to apply downwards pressure through the machine help make the machines operate effectively.
The SCH frame has been great - we use with the spiker & slitter options mainly and the supplier even made a fitting to work with our Jacobsen TR3 mower, as we' had no general tractor just the mower. 5/5. Highly recommended as spiking the pitch regularly between more expensive verti-drains helps the grass a lot.
We have had the 48” since 2006 and it was the best buy we have ever made. I would never look at anything else to do this job, whether we could afford anything else or not. We are now raising funds to get the 60” model and the best 100-litre spreader I have ever seen… Forget the expensive second-hand kit, go for SCH Equipment, you will not be let down by it and it will not cost you an arm or a leg. Easy to use and it does the business.
